About Me
I help individuals and families across California and the US build retirement income strategies, simplify complex financial decisions, and pursue financial independence — with clarity and confidence.
David Mathias, CFP®, RICP®, MSBA, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Retirement Income Certified Professional® based in Cloverdale, CA. With over a decade of experience in banking and finance, he specializes in retirement planning, retirement income strategies, and tax-efficient investing for clients across the country, with deep roots serving families throughout Sonoma and Mendocino Counties and the broader North Bay Area. David's background in philosophy shapes how he approaches every financial conversation: with patience, careful listening and a commitment to getting to the real question. He holds a BA from Lindenwood University (2013, Magna Cum Laude), where he served as Student Body President and competed on the National Championship shooting team. He also holds an MS in Business Administration specializing in Financial and Tax Planning from San Diego State University, where he graduated top of his program in 2022. David lives just over an hour north of San Francisco in Northern California's wine country with his wife, Claudia, and their three sons, Benjamin, Levi, and Noah. When he's not with clients, you'll find him enjoying Sonoma's vineyards and Mendocino's rugged coastline and redwoods with his family. Who I Work With I work with individuals and families at every stage of the retirement journey — from those beginning to plan in their 50s and 60s, to those already retired and focused on making their money last. Most of my clients are navigating questions like: When should I retire, and will I have enough? How do I turn savings into reliable monthly income? When is the best time to claim Social Security? How do I reduce what I'm paying in taxes in retirement? What happens to my finances if something happens to me?
