James (Jim) Mayer has spent more than 39 years in the financial services industry and has been cited on ABC, NBC, Bloomberg, and Yahoo! Finance.
His early career years focused on delivering retirement benefits to Fortune 500 companies. Currently, he is an educator working with the Association of Financial Consultants to provide valuable information to assist families and companies on how to navigate through the retirement and savings process. A much-overlooked aspect of retirement planning is the proper understanding of Social Security benefits, along with ascertaining when and how to properly file. Born and raised in Northern New Jersey, Jim attended Temple University and St. Peter’s University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management and a minor in Mathematics. He learned the retirement industry from the ground floor working at the former Bankers Trust Company while still a senior in college as part of the bank’s cooperative education and management training programs. After seven years, he had worked his way up to the position of bank officer, but then left the firm to relocate to New England for a project management position at State Street Bank. While employed at State Street and its successor companies of CitiStreet, ING and Voya Financial, he worked on complex corporate retirement plans and was promoted to Senior Vice President and then Executive Vice President, managing and overseeing their Large Corporate Market division consisting of millions of retirement plan participants and hundreds of billions of dollars in plan assets. Clients consisted of household Fortune 500 and global corporations. Jim is a fiduciary and the acting President of Freedom America Wealth Management’s multiple office locations. He offers complimentary consulting via the IMPACT planning process which includes an analysis of how different tax-qualified accounts like IRAs and 401(k)s, as well as pensions and Social Security benefits need to come together to form an overall income plan. “There’s no manual for retirement, so it’s key that clients make the right decisions in conjunction with all of their assets,” he says. Jim is an Investment Advisor Representative with FamilyWealthTM Advisers, LLC, has his Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) designation from the American College of Financial Services, is a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC®) from the IARFC and is also National Social Security Advisor certificate holder (NSSA®). Jim also holds life and health insurance licenses in multiple states. Additionally, he hosted a radio show called “Financial Safari” which has aired on WPRO News Talk Radio- 99.7 FM or 630 AM.
